Hospital Clínica Benidorm has started up the new “annual campaign of free PSA tests” taking care of male health, orientated to the prevention and the control of illnesses of the prostate. The PSA indicator (Prostate-specific antigen) is obtained with a simple blood analysis and can help with the detection of prostate illnesses and, specifically, the…
The Vascular Surgery Unit of Hospital Clínica Benidorm is expanding with the incorporation of Dr. David Martínez Marín who unites with Dr. Jorge Bercial to offer new benefits and services with an important increase in consultation times, attention during hospitalization and surgical services such as the varicose vein surgery which incorporates the newest and most efficient surgical techniques for the elimination of varicose veins:
CHIVA technique. The CHIVA surgical technique eliminates the veins without extracting the saphenous vein (principal superficial vein).
- Less aggressive technique which means a better recuperation.
- Local anesthetic, sedation or spinal anesthesia.
- Out-patient procedure
- 5-15-20 day recuperation (depending on the patient).
- Six months wearing compression stockings.
- There is a module of this treatment which allows it to be carried out in the summer.
Laser or Radiofrequency Technique
This technique closes the saphenous vein with the heat of the laser or of the radiofrequency and the varicose veins are extracted through mini incisions.
- Tumescent local anesthesia with sedation.
- Fast recuperation, similar to that which is achieved with the CHIVA technique.
- Out-patient procedure
- Two months wearing compression stockings.
Due to its simplicity and rapid recuperation it can be done throughout the whole year. It seals – or disables – the saphenous vein through “Venaseal”, (brand name of specialized medical glue) and the varicose veins close with sclerotherapy (medical foam).
- Local anaesthetic is used.
- Rapid recuperation
- No need for compression stockings.
Dr. Martínez Marín assures us that “although any one of these techniques is efficient for the elimination of the varicose veins, it is the patient who chooses between the techniques proposed by the vascular surgeon after performing his clinical evaluation and the analysis of the characteristics and needs.”
For example, “the patients who would like to be operated on in the summer, have an immediate incorporation into their work or sporting activities or those whose aesthetic outcome is not a primary concern, would go for the CHIVA technique, as it treats the cause of the varicose veins without extracting them. Another common case is that of patients who do not tolerate the compression stockings and that also take advantage of the summer to receive treatment; in these cases, the ideal technique is the sealing with ‘Venaseal’. However, there are patients who are more demanding with the aesthetic part of the veins and opt for the laser or radiofrequency technique”, explained Dr. Martínez Marín.
VenaSeal is a medical adhesive which seals the damaged vein without surgery. This technique does not provoke lesions in the tissue which allows a rapid recuperation and there is no need to use compression stockings or bandages Dr. David Martínez, specialist in Phlebology and Vein Surgery of the Unit of Angiology and Vascular Surgery of…
